Our goal is to repurpose ceramic dishes and common household
throw-aways. With this material you can resurface old furniture,
tile floors, and create vibrant accent pieces. Rather than sending
furniture and dishes to the garbage dump, this breathes new life
into old material and helps cut down on the total amount of trash.
In the U.S., 4.39 pounds of trash per day and up to 56 tons of trash per year are created by the average person.
Only about one-tenth of all solid garbage in the United States gets recycled.
Americans generate more than 180 million tons of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) each year.
40% Paper
17.6% Yard Waste
8.5% Metals
7.0% Glass
7.4% Food
8% Plastics
11.6% Miscellaneous
Furniture, clayware and pottery are organized into the ‘misc’ category.
MISC accounts for 11.6% of the total weight of MSW, and 18.3% of the total volume.

An interesting site, they sell mosaics along with patterns. Just an idea that we could offer a book of patterns if customers are feeling less than inspired.

Here is my idea for our installation. We would have a table covered with a white cloth, which would hold our containers of color sorted tiles. There would be a separate podium to show our package design for the boxes that customers would be able to walk out with. Additionally, we would have a tile pattern on the wall (in silhouette) along with our company name and logo.

Here is a page from my notebook concerning the creation of our project name. Given that we are going to be creating a tile store, I felt that the logo and name definitely needed to be centered around the word “Tile” itself.
